T3’s story

Tre ‘T3’ Irvin was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, where his love for basketball began at just three years old. Growing up, his family didn’t have the money for expensive AAU teams or top leagues around the city, so he made the most of every opportunity he had. He played for his elementary school team and a youth league called Highview, learning early that hard work would have to make up for what he lacked in resources.

At Laukhuf Elementary, he helped make history by winning the school’s first-ever championship. He continued his journey at Newburg Middle School, where his teams started his 6th grade season undefeated, finished as runners-up in the Louisville Invitational Tournament during his 7th grade year, and won a Pre-State Championship in 8th grade.

Entering high school, he went from being overlooked to becoming one of the top point guards in Kentucky. He was heavily recruited by many of the top schools in the state and ultimately chose Trinity High School, one of Kentucky’s top academic and athletic programs, where he played alongside future University of Louisville guard David Johnson. During that time, he rose to become the #3 ranked point guard in the state.

After his freshman year, he received an opportunity that changed his life—moving to San Diego, California at just 15 years old to continue pursuing basketball. Leaving home and moving by himself forced him to grow up quickly. Coming from humble beginnings had already taught him resilience, but this experience pushed him mentally and emotionally in ways he had never experienced before.

He spent his sophomore and junior years in San Diego and eventually earned opportunities to compete on the Nike EYBL circuit. Then the world changed. COVID shut basketball down across the country, changing the direction of his journey.

For his senior year, he decided to move back home to Louisville and play one final season at Southern High School in front of his family and friends. After graduating, he took a gap year to focus on building his business, developing his personal brand, and creating opportunities beyond the game.

During that time, he was recruited to play for the Student Athlete World USA Team and selected as an ambassador, earning the opportunity to travel internationally to Argentina to compete against some of the country’s top basketball programs. For several weeks, he immersed himself in a completely different culture, gaining experiences that extended far beyond basketball. He built meaningful relationships with teammates, coaches, opponents, and fans while creating connections that have remained with him to this day. The opportunity allowed him to see a different part of the world, develop a broader perspective on life, and experience firsthand how basketball can bring people together regardless of language, background, or culture.

The experience remains one of the most memorable chapters of his journey and reinforced his belief that some of life’s greatest opportunities come through the game he has loved since childhood.

He later earned an opportunity to walk on at Murray State University, but Achilles injuries forced him to step away from the game. At the time, it felt like a setback, but looking back it became one of the biggest blessings of his life. During those two years away from basketball, he learned who he was beyond the sport. He learned about life, purpose, and growth.

Today, he is back in San Diego training mentally, physically, and spiritually as he continues pursuing his goal of playing professional basketball while also running a successful business.

His journey hasn’t been perfect, and it certainly hasn’t been traditional. He has experienced success, setbacks, injuries, sacrifices, uncertainty, and moments that tested his faith. But every challenge taught him valuable lessons and helped shape the person he is today.

His story serves as a reminder that there is no single path to success. Every athlete’s journey looks different. The road may not always go according to plan, but that does not mean the dream is out of reach.

Coming from very little, he refused to allow circumstances to determine his future. Instead, he used every obstacle as motivation to keep building toward his goals. With the support of his family, his faith in God, and an unwavering belief in himself, he continued moving forward when many would have given up.

For young athletes chasing their own dreams, his message is simple: where you start does not determine where you finish. Keep believing. Keep working. Keep trusting the process. Let God handle the rest!

His journey is still being written — and the best is yet to come.
